One in six sex offenders serves a shockinly short time. Less then 12 months that is!
Sixty percent of all sex offenders serve under three years of time in Jail.
Even though last year alone, there were 500 sex offenders send to jail.
Hopefull this informations will put pressure on Justice Secretary Ken Clarke to give violent criminals only half the time they would have to serve, if they plea guilty early.
Anger from the public already forced David Cameron to get rid of the '50 %' discount rule on rapist, but not yet on other criminals.
Yet more then half of all the convicts charged with violents offences go free after less then a year.
It is clear, England wants tougher rules against crime, as promised by there goverment.
Reaction:
I do not think that by putting people in jail, mental diseases and anger issues will be solved. I think they can get worse after a while. I do agree on thougher punishments, but I do not agree with the method. I also found it shocking that so many get out after just a year.
Since I am sure most victims would need more time then a year to mend the psychical impact of the assault.
Besides, the idea of giving criminals a 50 % charge on the time they have to serve if they plea guilty early is a bit ridiculious. You shouldn't have to bribe them. They should confess and if they don't then they should be send to court.
I agree on harsher punishment and with lack of better ways to punish them, serving time might be the only way to go in this case.

I agree with some of Marlot's arguments. The government of the UK should apply stricter punishments. However the offenders should also receive some form of psychiatric help. The reality is that not every offender could get help, therefore putting them to prison is the only alternative to punish them.
BeantwoordenVerwijderena 50% discount? I haven't heard something like this before.. How can the government treat a serious case as a ''50% discount''.. therefore, i definitely agree with Marlot. The rules against these criminals should get a lot tougher. Psychiatric help wouldn't do a lot in my opinion.. since I think there is nothing to do about these kind of sick minds. it'll only cost more too.
